Rebuilding Recovery Capacity Instead of Chasing a Better Vacation

The instinct is to solve this with a better trip: longer, farther away, and more restorative. I understand the pull, but this time I’m approaching my own vacation differently. My trip is 18 days across several time zones, and my wind-down started two weeks before I will board that plane, ready for takeoff. High-performing women tend to do the opposite. We cram everything in before leaving and plan to make up for lost time when we return, which means we can arrive at vacation already carrying an enormous amount of physiological and mental load. The first several days away then become less about restoration and more about coming down from the pace it took to get there.

This time, I’m reverse engineering it. I’m biohacking the runway. When I feel myself getting wound up during my two-week countdown, I deliberately pause and spend a few minutes doing breathwork rather than allowing that momentum to keep building.
